#12037 Basking (Shark Transport)

Medium-size, Female, Adult Hound,

Hi! My name is Basking Shark but my foster parents call me Piper.

I am a 2 year old hound mix, and weigh about 25 lbs and I need to gain a few more pounds to get to a healthy weight. I'm the perfect size because I'm small and don't take up a lot of space, but I'm big enough to keep up on fun walks and hikes.

I'm doing a good job adjusting to life as a pet. I'm so well behaved and I'm a fast learner! I'm already crate trained and house trained. I like my crate and that's where I spend my time when my foster parents go to bed or leave the house. I will bark for a few minutes and then settle in. I haven't had any accidents in my crate at all and no accidents in the house in over a week! I learned the command "Sit" in one day and now I sit whenever I want or need something.

I'm a curious girl and due to my hound nature I love to smell everything. I like to sniff around but I don't chew on anything or even move it! My foster mom can leave her shoes out and not worry about me destroying them. The only things I like to chew on are bones. I also like to play with my foster dog sister's toys with her. I'm trying to figure out what my favorite game is, sometimes it's tug-o-war and sometimes it's fetch. Other times I just like a good belly rub.

Here are some things to know about me:
- I am so gentle and polite
- I am a total sweetheart
- The folks at OPH think I was a hunting dog that has never been inside before, but I'm learning to love the inside life
- I have learned that I loooove a warm soft bed
- I am always available for head scratches
- I am not a big fan of change and loud noises, but I've gained a lot of confidence in the last few weeks
- I find comfort in my crate and being with other dogs
- I'd do best in a home that is a quieter such as older children
- I am very food motivated and easy to train
- I am very responsive to positive reinforcement training

I'd love to find a home that can be patient and loving with me as I figure out my new world! Apply to adopt me today!

All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.

This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner. This is very important because it means that while they may act one way in the foster’s home, you may experience something different in your home.
