About Phyllis
Hey y’all! I’m Phyllis, and I’m proud to be the first dog ever pulled from the Pike County Animal Shelter in Pikeville, KY by OPH! My journey north to Virginia started on Veteran’s Day, and now I’m looking for a loving forever family to call my own.
Personality
I’m a very sweet girl with a gentle heart, though I can be a tiny bit shy when I first meet new people. Don’t worry though—I warm up quickly and will be leaning in for pets and sharing kisses with you in no time! I’m especially good with other dogs and would love a home with a doggie friend who can help me build confidence and have some fun.
Energy Level & Ideal Home
I’m about 1.5 years old and have a calm, easygoing nature. I have blossomed outside of the shelter and in my foster home and with patience I will continue to grow. I might now be able to take a 3 mile walk the first day but after a few days I will be. I’m learning to feel more secure each day.
Skills and Training
Leash Skills: I walk nicely on a leash, though some things still surprise me.
Crate Trained: I’m crate trained and sleep quietly.
House Training: I've got house and crate training down. While I may have an accident at first (maybe the first day or two) while we are learning how to talk to each other it will soon pass. Just know that I am not a barker unless I need to potty.
Special Considerations
Shy with Men: I’m a bit reserved around men, but my foster dad and brother have been helping me get more comfortable. My foster mom is happy to report that it's working, I went to an event this past week and had no issues with strange men at all.
Dog-Friendly: I’m super friendly with other dogs and would thrive in a home with a canine friend or two but it's okay if I'm the only child too.
Love and Affection
If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle companion who’s ready to learn and grow with you, I could be your girl. I’m sweet, sensitive, and full of love to give. My foster family says I’ll make a wonderful addition to any home. So let's start taking walks together soon!

Vaccinations: Up to date for my age
Spay/Neuter: Completed

All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.
This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner. This is very important because it means that while they may act one way in the foster’s home, you may experience something different in your home.
