Meet Trix, a curious, and friendly pup who is always ready to play.
Name: Trix
Age of late January 2025: 13 months, DOB: Dec. 16, 2023
Weight: 45 Lbs
Breed: Shepherd mix.
PERSONALITY
Trix is sweet and energetic and likes to explore. This is a high-energy and very clever girl who loves other dogs and people.
COMPANIONSHIP
Trix loves being with people and will follow her favorite humans around where ever they go. After playtime – and showing off her best zoomies - she calms down nicely and is ready to cuddle. She will sometimes take her cues from her foster siblings and gets excited when her foster sibs reciprocate. Trix’s foster parents expect her to mature into a great walking/hiking companion. Trix likes to play with other dogs and prefers dogs her own size. Her ideal day would consist of lots of time outside sniffing and exploring her yard.
TRAINING AND LEARNING
This smart girl has already learned many commands including touch, sit, stay, down, wait, leave it, come, roll over. Trix was potty trained with her first family but needs some re-learning after finding herself back at the shelter. She prefers to potty while roaming freely in her yard, rather than while on a leash. Trix is very good about getting in her crate when given the command, and sleeps peacefully through the night there. She also seems fine in her crate if no one is home. If she knows her humans are at home, however, she will let you know that she wants out, so she doesn’t miss any of the action – or love. She is working on her leash manners and learning to keep her curiosity in check when she really wants to go say hello to another dog out for a walk. As she gets more comfortable with her foster family, she is learning that she doesn’t need to guard her food or toys. If one of Trix’s foster siblings picks up a toy that Trix was playing with, Trix will acknowledge the transgression with a bark but she relents and lets her sib keep the toy. Trix is quite interested in her feline foster sib but shows no aggression. She sometimes summons her inner feline and sits on the back of the couch to look out a window. Trix is good about riding in the car.
LOVE AND AFFECTION
Trix likes to show her love by giving lots of kisses. Overall, Trix is definitely affectionate.
IDEAL HOME
Trix would thrive in a home with active adults without young children. Around young children, Trix sometimes feels she needs to be protective of her turf. A big fenced yard and lots of walks would be very beneficial for her. Given her energy level and the fact that she sometimes barks in her crate, she would probably not be the best fit for apartment living. She would do best with a patient family who can help her learn to be her best self.

Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.
This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner. This is very important because it means that while they may act one way in the foster’s home, you may experience something different in your home.
