PERSONALITY
Jake shines with a gentle and endearing demeanor, combined with a playful puppy charm. He enjoys running around the yard and chasing his littermates. Jake is a sweet, friendly and playful little guy.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Jake is part of a litter found in a remote wooded area of Mississippi, left to fend for themselves. Thankfully, a kind adventurer on a 4x4 rescued them and brought them to safety. Despite his rough start, Jake’s gratitude shines through in his loving personality. Jake’s coloring and his body shape hint at possible shepherd ancestry, which comes with intelligence and loyalty.
Jake is too young to be neutered, and his future family will need to arrange for this at the appropriate time.
Because Jake is so young, he is recently out of quarantine and since he has only had two of his required three distemper shots, he cannot go outside of the foster’s fenced yard so he has not yet begun leash training.
This little guy is too young to hold his bladder for more than four hours so he can’t yet begin crate training. He is, however, doing a good job going potty outside in the yard and using the pee pads when he’s inside
COMPANIONSHIP
Jake is sweet and social, with a gentle nature. He loves people and other dogs. He is full of puppy energy. He loves playing and napping in equal measure. He loves humans and craves their company, whether hanging around his/her people indoors, on exploring the outdoors. This friendly little guy enjoys following his humans around in the yard when they're exploring outdoors.
TRAINING AND LEARNING
Every day he learns new things about the world and about how to have good puppy manners.
Jake is doing a good job with his potty training, using the pee pads in his kennel overnight and keeping his kennel clean during the day with regular potty breaks. He also does a good job sitting for attention but he still needs to be encouraged to keep sitting or he will soon pop up, unable to contain his joyful puppy energy.
TRAITS AND IDEAL HOME
Jake will thrive with a family or individual committed to providing plenty of love, training, and exercise. He will love a welcoming environment where he can continue to build confidence and grow into a well-mannered adult. Jake would also do great in a home with other dogs or children who can match his friendly and social personality.
LOVE AND AFFECTION
Jake loves to be held, give kisses and sit in any available warm lap. In his kennel, he entertains himself while also entertaining anyone watching, as he engages in adorable play with tug toys, stuffed toys and Nylabones. Jake is already becoming less shy than when he first joined his foster family. He now seeks out petting and affection.
Jake’s journey from the woods of Mississippi to his foster home is a story of hope and love. If you’re searching for a sweet, gentle, and loving companion, Jake might be the perfect fit. Apply today to meet this precious pup and make him/her part of your family!
PLEASE NOTE
Because this puppy is so young, it has only received 2 of the required 3 puppy distemper vaccines. This is very IMPORTANT because it means that the immune system will not be fully functioning until about 16 weeks of age. Until then, the puppy MUST stay out of public places where it could be exposed to the germs of other dogs. These no puppy zones include all pet stores, dog parks, and for apartment dwellers, areas used by other dogs. These requirements are strictly for the puppy’s medical safety and longevity.

This pup is too young to be neutered, and his future family will need to arrange for this at the appropriate time.
All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.
This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner. This is very important because it means that while they may act one way in the foster’s home, you may experience something different in your home.
