Name: Forky
Gender: Male
Breed: Beagle Mix
Age: Estimated 5 years old
Weight: 27 pounds
Current Location: Ijamsville, MD
Good with: Other dogs & people of all ages (including children!)
Personality: Meet Forky, the spirited little boy with a heart full of joy! He delights in playing with his toys, happily gnawing on his favorite bones, and soaking up all the snuggles he can get. Every day is an adventure for Forky, filled with laughter and warmth!
Companionship: Forky is a wonderful companion for both humans and pups. He is happy to simply coexist or play with the dogs around him. Forky adores his foster family’s two energetic kids, aged 6 and 7. His favorite thing to do is give them hugs so he can get all the pets and giggles they provide. Forky also enjoys snuggling on the couch close to his humans, and he lives for getting his head scratched. It is clear that he just wants to be loved.
Training and Learning: Forky loves being outside on walks and overall has good leash manners with some pulling. He does like to say "hello" when he sees another dog across the way. He is working on perfecting his potty training, and overall does well during the crate, both during the day and overnight, after some initial barking. He is working on basic commands such as "sit." True to his breed, he has a hound nose that needs supervision to not get into things he shouldn't but can hang out in his crate with a kong or another treat if you need to get some things done around the house.
Special Considerations: Forky would thrive in a home where he can have a mix of physical/mental stimulation as well as downtime. While he is not overly loud, he certainly has that Beagle howl when he feels like letting out his voice. He is a curious boy, so it is a good idea to have eyes on him until he understands the rules. He prefers not to share his most delicious food items with other pups.
Forky is looking for his forever home where a new family will cherish his sweet personality and companionship. If this sounds like the perfect dog for you hit that apply button today!

All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.
This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner. This is very important because it means that while they may act one way in the foster’s home, you may experience something different in your home.
