About: Simon
Hello! My name is Simon. I'm a mixed-hound breed dog with a sweet personality, ready to give you all my love and loyalty. I am a southern boy who has come up north in search of my forever home. Although I've had a rough past, you would never know it from my sweet demeanor and calm nature.

Background:
I was found wandering in the woods by a kind woman who sheltered me from the cold and provided me with a warm bed and some food. No one stepped up to claim me, so now I am here with OPH, looking for my forever home. While my foster mom doesn't know what happened in my past, I did suffer some sort of trauma; I’m missing part of my bottom lip and have scars on my face. Despite this, I remain a happy boy who is grateful to have a foster home. I also have not shown any problems with eating or drinking.

Personality:
My favorite activities include trotting around my foster mom's backyard and sniffing out treats or food. Like most hounds, I am very food-motivated and tend to sneak a snack or two if given the chance! I have medium to low energy and enjoy taking naps beside you once I’ve finished playing outside. I have also met the other dogs in my foster home and enjoyed spending time around them. I even met my foster mom's two rambunctious kids and was fine around them.

Training:
I am thriving in my foster home, where I’ve made my crate a cozy sanctuary. Each night, I settle in with a sense of comfort and security, sleeping soundly throughout the night without a fuss in my crate. I’m diligently practicing house training, learning to recognize when it’s time to go outside. With patience and positive reinforcement, I’m starting to understand the routines, and I’m making great progress.

My Ideal Home:
- Someone willing to look past my scars and give me all the love I so desperately deserve.
- Home with a backyard or lots of walks to use my hound nose to enjoy all the smells!
- A peaceful life with the people who just want to shower me with love.

Included Veterinary Care:
- Up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations
- Microchipped for safety
- Heartworm preventative once HW treatment has been completed
- Flea and tick preventative
- Worm/parasite treatments
- Neutered

I’m looking for my forever family! Is that with you? If so please hit the adopt me button and let’s get our family started.

This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time before adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Read more about heartworm disease here

Simon Says Simon Says is currently being fostered in Ijamsville, MD.

All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.

This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner. This is very important because it means that while they may act one way in the foster’s home, you may experience something different in your home.
