About Missy
Hello! I’m Missy, a 5.5-year-old Hound mix with a gentle heart and a laid-back personality. At about 55 pounds, I’m the perfect balance of cuddle buddy and walking partner. My foster mom says I’m the kind of gal who takes life at a relaxed pace but can’t resist the excitement of heading outside or earning my favorite treats!
Personality
I’m a mellow, affectionate lady who loves attention and will nudge you if you stop petting me too soon! I enjoy being close to my humans, whether snoozing nearby while they’re on the computer or watching TV, or cuddling up for a cozy nap. I greet everyone with a wagging tail and a warm smile, hoping for some pets in return. I’m easygoing around children, other people, and dogs, and I was such a good girl at a recent event, letting kids pet me and playing nicely with other dogs.
Energy Level
I love my outdoor time, especially walking on the trails where I can catch all the interesting scents. I get a little excited when I pick up a trail, so I’m working on keeping my leash manners in check. I’d be thrilled to have a family that enjoys daily strolls, though I’ll happily settle for a fast walk if running isn’t on the agenda. Inside, I’m content to lay by your side, with my head on your lap or on a comfy dog bed.
Skills and Training
I’m crate and house-trained. I can’t wait to eat or get a treat in my crate. I’ll give a little whine when I need to go out, & if you’re not paying attention, I’ll keep putting my paws on you. I’ve learned that tasty treats like chicken encouraged me to learn and sit. I’m crate-trained and always head straight to my crate at mealtime—especially since my foster mom makes a yummy gravy to mix with my kibble, which can be a little hard for me due to some missing teeth. I’ve even started howling a little when I’m especially happy or excited!
Companionship
I get along well with other dogs, especially my foster sibling, and we play together before or after our walks. I’m also happy to let my foster sibling know when I’ve had enough playtime. My foster sibling was adopted and now I’m getting all the affection! Oh boy! While I love being near my humans, I’m becoming more independent and sometimes lay a little further away, which shows I’m comfortable and at ease in my foster home.
Love and Affection
I’m a sweet, gentle girl who loves to be close to my humans. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will give you endless affection, nuzzle you for more pets, and curl up with you after a long day, I’m your girl. I may have been a hunting pup at some point—I spot squirrels and rabbits but usually just watch them quietly rather than lunge. Although, there is a beaver I would like to know better. I’d love to find a family who appreciates my calm, loving nature and is ready to share the joys of life with me.

All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.
This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner. This is very important because it means that while they may act one way in the foster’s home, you may experience something different in your home.
