About Me
Hi there! My name is Turtle, and I’m a 9-month-old, 40-pound mixed-breed pup with a gentle heart and a love for the outdoors. I may be a little shy, but with the right family, I know I’ll come out of my shell and show my playful side. Toys, bones, treats, and time outside make me happy, and I’m looking for a calm, understanding home where I can feel safe and loved.
Personality
I definitely feel more comfortable around women, and I thrive in a calm environment where I have time to get to know everyone at my own pace. I’d do best with a gentle, patient person—ideally a woman—with a steady, relaxed vibe, especially if she has a confident doggy sibling who can show me the ropes. I’m playful and curious, but I need people who can read my signals and understand when I’m feeling nervous. When I feel rushed or pushed outside my comfort zone, I sometimes show my discomfort. With a family that gives me space to approach things on my terms, I know I’ll build trust and feel more secure.
Energy Level
I love the outdoors! Chasing toys and exploring nature are some of my favorite things, so a little time outside each day is important for me. After some fun outdoor time, I’m perfectly happy to settle down and relax indoors.
Skills and Training
I’m proud to say that I’m already house-trained and haven’t had any accidents indoors. I do well in my crate too—it’s my safe place where I feel secure. I’m very food-motivated, so training with treats is a fun and rewarding way for me to learn new things!
Companionship
I get along well with other dogs and would love to have a doggy sibling who’s confident and can help me feel at ease in my new home. With patient guidance and time, I’ll get more comfortable meeting new people, especially if I’m given the space to approach them on my own. My ideal family will understand that I need gentle introductions and will let me take my time building trust.
Love and Affection
Once I feel safe, I’m affectionate, loyal, and eager to bond with my people. I may be a bit shy at first, but I have so much love to give to a family who understands me. With patience and trust, I’ll be your devoted companion for life!

All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.
This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner. This is very important because it means that while they may act one way in the foster’s home, you may experience something different in your home.
