About Sophie
Hi! My name is Sophie, and I’m a smart, gentle 2-year-old girl with a unique ability to connect with people despite being hearing impaired. I’m often told I look like a princess (think Snow White!), and I’m ready to bring a little magic into your life! At 68 pounds, I’m a loyal, affectionate companion who loves spending time with my family, learning new things, and giving the best doggy hugs.

Personality
I’m a loving, gentle girl who gets along well with everyone—including kids and other dogs. I’m very calm and patient around children, and nothing makes me happier than when they come over to give me hugs. I currently live with two doggy foster sisters, and I enjoy playtime with them. But I’d also do well as an only dog, as long as I get plenty of playdates or trips to the fenced dog park.

Energy Level
I’m an active, social pup who enjoys exploring the world around me. I’m happiest when I’m around people, playing with my doggy friends, or learning new commands with my foster parents. I love to be included in family activities and would fit well in a home that enjoys quality time together.

Skills and Training
I’m a fast learner, and I love learning new sign language commands! So far, I know how to focus, come back, and understand “no.” I’m eager to keep learning, and my foster parents say I’m one of the smartest dogs they’ve ever met. Training me is fun because I’m food-motivated and enjoy bonding with my humans through our “silent” communication.

Living with a Hearing-Impaired Dog
Deaf dogs like me have incredible focus and tend to be extra tuned in to body language and visual cues. We’re known for building especially strong bonds with our humans since we rely on eye contact and hand signals. Deaf dogs can live full, happy lives and are often more responsive to training than hearing dogs because we focus so closely on our humans’ cues. I’m eager to keep learning and would love to be your loyal, attentive friend!

Companionship
I’m looking for a family that will appreciate my gentle nature, intelligence, and playful spirit. I adore affection and just want to be a part of the family. I’m happiest when I’m with people who give me attention, love, and the occasional hug from my favorite little humans. A fenced yard or regular trips to a secure dog park would be ideal for me to stretch my legs and play safely.

Love and Affection
If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate dog who’s eager to please and easy to train, I’m your girl. With my princess-like charm, loyalty, and love for family, I’m ready to make a lasting connection with you.

Sophie (Special Needs Deaf) She has special needs. Sophie (Special Needs Deaf) is currently being fostered in Frederick, MD.

All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.

This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner. This is very important because it means that while they may act one way in the foster’s home, you may experience something different in your home.
