Meet Scrappy, a sweet boy whose love of lounging is matched by his love of exploring the outdoors on a nice walk.
Name: Scrappy
Gender: Male
Breed: Chihuahua Mixed Breed
Age: 4 years old, estimated DOB: Sept. 4, 2020
Weight: 14 lbs
Current Location: Baltimore, MD
Personality: Scrappy is a gentle and quiet boy who appreciates patience and encouragement as he is learning to come out of his shell in his foster home. So far, he hasn't shown a desire to play with toys, and is happy to just settle down for some rest and relaxation.
Special Considerations: Scrappy would thrive in a calmer home environment where he can build his confidence and trust at his own pace. He does not require much play. While his foster mom hasn't seen him around cats, the SC shelter said he lived in an office with a cat. He's a quiet boy, making him a great fit for an apartment, rowhome, or other close-living environments.
Companionship: Scrappy is a little shadow who likes to follow people around, but he prefers being pet on his own terms and can be a bit nervous if someone pets him before he is ready. Once he is comfortable, though, he will nudge your hand to get more scratches. He is well-behaved around other dogs.
Training and Learning: Scrappy loves being outside on walks and has very good leash manners. He politely passes other people and dogs while taking walks. Scrappy is potty trained and crate trained. Scrappy will sleep quietly in his crate and during the work day and overnight, and he sometimes enters his crate on his own, just to hang out in there for a while. His foster mom doesn’t think he has seen indoor stairs before so he is still learning how to navigate them. He is working on basic commands such as "sit." He has good house manners and does not jump much, but might show some interest in delicious-smelling human food.
Love and Affection: Scrappy enjoys snuggling on the couch close to his humans and is also happy to survey the room from his own nearby rug or dog bed. He is a calm boy who is easy to please.
Scrappy is looking for his forever home where a new family will cherish his sweet personality and companionship.

All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.
This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner. This is very important because it means that while they may act one way in the foster’s home, you may experience something different in your home.
